Start Strong Assessments

On October 12-13, New Jersey Start Strong assessments will occur at WE Middle School. These Start Strong Assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics are in lieu of last year’s New Jersey Student Learning Assessments that were cancelled.

Unlike the LinkIt Benchmark Assessments that are pre-assessing skills and knowledge that will be learned throughout the 2021-2022 school year, the NJ Start Strong Assessments are evaluating the content and skills that students were expected to learn last year during the 2020-2021 school year.  For example, a student enrolled in English 8 will be assessed on their knowledge of the English 7 standards.  In combination with our LinkIt Benchmark Assessments, NJ Start Strong scores will serve as additional data to help us further identify our students’ learning strengths and areas in need of improvement.

All students will complete the Start Strong English Language Arts Assessment on Tuesday, October 12 and the Mathematics Assessment on Wednesday, October 13.  Make-up testing will occur on Thursday, October 14.  Testing will begin at 7:45 a.m. and will last approximately 60 minutes.  Students should check the room assignments posted in the cafeteria and small gym, and Chromebooks should be fully charged the night before.  Students who finish early may read silently.

Parents will receive Individual Student Reports (ISRs) when they become available. View the New Jersey Department of Education website for more NJ Start Strong information.
