Awareness in Action at West Essex Middle School

Awareness in Action at West Essex Middle School

Earlier this month, West Essex Middle School students spent an afternoon learning and having fun while focusing on their second core value: awareness. West Essex Middle School follows the WE CARE model, which stands for collaboration, awareness, resilience, and empathy.

Students began the afternoon in small groups throughout the building, participating in activities designed to raise awareness about issues such as student homelessness, hunger, and mental health challenges. They explored thoughtful questions and engaged in meaningful discussions about how they can become more aware of, and responsive to, these ongoing struggles.

The day concluded with a winter pep rally hosted by our student council representatives and advisors. Students enjoyed lively games like Hungry Hungry Hippos and musical chairs, while also celebrating our winter athletes and arts programs. The event wrapped up with a spirited freeze dance competition featuring our amazing faculty and staff.

It was a memorable and meaningful day for our students—check out some photos from the event!
